Many of us are familiar with Wikipedia and in fact use it as a quick resource. But did you know that most universities (even some high schools) prohibit it’s use as a source in papers and projects. Why? well because of the nature of Wikipedia. It, and other wiki sites, allow collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users. What does this mean? You are getting what others perceive to be the definition of a certain thing. Granted they have procedures in place to avoid misinformation, but as you can see here you can never be too sure.
We as youth and young adults have a bad habit of falling into a wikifaith! Are you allowing others to define your relationship with God? Are you allowing the hypocrisy of your parents or peers to influence your faith? As we begin to make our faith our own, and draw closer to Christ..
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming
Ephesians 4:14 (NIV)
There’s nothing wrong with seeking advise and wisdom from others, but their actions and opinion can’t be your only source. We must be well read, “ready in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2, NIV) and compare everything we hear and see with the word of God.
