Do you remember that childhood game Simon Says? It was so simple yet so hard at the same time. The only phrase you had to listen for was “Simon Says” and any command that followed you were required to do. Listen and obey; don’t hesitate or become too excited, or you would lose and have to wait for the next round.
Do you realize that you’ve never stopped playing Simon Says? Think about it. Someone is your Simon but the question is WHO? Are you playing this “game” with God or are you playing this “game” with Satan. Have you been following Gods commands or are you actually following the enemy’s?
Of course, we want to say that we are following Gods commands because that’s the Christian thing to say. QUESTION: Have you ever done something that you knew was not pleasing to God? Was it God commanded you to get drunk? Or to have sex out of marriage? Or to lie to your best friend about their outfit? Or to your parents about where you were going? Hmm I don’t think so…
Let’s reevaluate our lives for a minute. What are some commands that God has told us? What commands has He given you for your life? Maybe God has told you to pray more or talk to someone in school about God? He’s probably told you to stay away from certain “friends” because they are leading you into the wrong direction. Are you listening for the “God Says”?
We are reminded that no matter what we do God is going to love you.
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels can’t and then Demons can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and not even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away.”
-Romans 8:38
HOWEVER, remember that every decision is followed by a consequence; good or bad. If we obey God’s commands our reward is entrance into heaven. If we play Satan’s game, then our prize is a wide gate into hell (Matt 7:13).
So I ask you one last time, whose game of Simon Says do you want to play?
Jesus said, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me”.
-John 14:23-24
